An antique automatic candlestick telephone manufactured by S.H. Couch & Company. Also called a Selector Signaling Telephone. Metal automatic dialer with working metal switching dial system. There is also a pushbutton for ringing the selected station.

Rare, S.H. Couch 30 station Autophone intercom. These were used in the pre-dial era (Western Electric Bell phones did not introduce a dial until 1919). The Autophone could be used in a small business where everyone would have a unique extension and could buz each other directly without the need of a switch board operator.

The dialing mechanism was automatic. The longer lever is positioned to the extension, while the shorter lever is rotated and released, which connects to the extension. This phone was used as an intercom or operators phone for the inter office or hospital communications. This phone came out of a collection in VA. The receiver cord is a bit worn but fine for display.
